Frequently Asked Questions
I want to read a book that is not on the list of approved Texts.  Can I still read it and have it count for the certificate?

More than likely the answer is "yes."  The approved list of texts is continually changing.  If you know of a book that should be included speak with your global mentor.  They will bring it up to the Global Team and ultimately approve the book if it fits the criteria.

I am not a freshman, can I still sign up for the Global Certificate?

Yes, you may still sign up and work toward the Global Certificate.  However you need to still comply with all requirements including four years of a foreign language.

Will the Global Certificate help my chances of getting into a college or university?

While we cannot speak for individual admissions offices any type of extra certificate earned that is on your school transcripts will make you stand out in a crowd.  Therefore you can expect the Global Certificate be a positive recognition on your transcripts when applying for schools beyond high school.

If I earn a 5th credit in the same foreign language, does that count for one of the "elective" credits?

Yes.  The Global Certificate encourages continued growth in communication through a foreign language so a fifth year of a foreign language can count towards your additional four credits of a "global course" needed for the certificate.

How do I sign up?

You may click on the "sign me up" button on the home page or here which will take you to a survey.  The survey will be used to pair you up with a Global Mentor.  After completing the survey you will be assigned a global mentor and receive information welcoming you to the program.  You will then want to set up a meeting with your global mentor during a Flex period.
