Staying on top of all the requirements has proven to be a challenge for many of us (students and teachers alike). We have had the Global Certificate program here and MHS for three years and out of the first ten students who signed up, became seniors (or were seniors when signing up), we had our first four graduate last year with the certificate. This is only a forty percent success rate. In an attempt to help all our students complete the program we established due dates at the end of the year last year that are going into place this year. Those due dates are listed at the bottom of this post. In addition there are a few common questions students may have regarding the due dates.
What if I miss a due date?
If a student misses a due date it is not the end of the world, but pressure is on for your continuation in the program. Our goal is to make the due dates so it is a nice easy transition throughout the process of earning your certificate. If you miss a due date you are essentially put on a "probation" period. You will need to meet with your mentor and talk about why you missed the due date and set up a second due date to complete the assignment that was missed. If that second due date is made, you are off "probation" and have nothing to worry about. Continue working on additional requirements. If that second due date is missed then it may be time to have a serious conversation with your mentor on why the second due date was missed and if remaining in the Global Certificate program is the best option for you.
Where can I get the due dates if I lose them?
We are in the process of getting the due dates posted on your google classroom as well as on this website for easy access.
I am not a freshman. If I stick to these due dates I wont earn the certificate so does this really apply to me?
Yes this does apply, however you need to give yourself additional due dates. As an upperclassman you have additional pressure to meet requirements in a timely manner. However you will need to take the responsibility to give yourself those additional due dates. If needed, meet with your mentor for help in creating your additional due dates. With school back in session it is not reasonable to think you will be able to read a book a week, write a reflection and stay on top of your regular homework assignments. Create a reasonable schedule for yourself to spread things out and still give yourself time to be you.
How do I turn my assignments in?
Remember everyone has been assigned a google classroom with their mentor as the teacher. Much of your work can be turned in electronically through google classroom but remember to send an e-mail to your mentor to let them know it was turned in (we don't get a notice from google when that happens). Also you may turn in a paper copy directly to your mentor or through an e-mail attachment.
