There have been a large number of changes in courses offered at Mukwonago High School. Many of those changes have zero impact on the global certificate program, however others have generated many questions by students as they plan to complete the requirements for the Global Certificate. So here are some of those changes and common questions as students make decisions to sign up for their courses for the 2020-21 school year.

Missing courses

Unfortunately with some staff changes and department changes some of the courses once offered here at MHS that related to the Global Certificate program have been dropped. Those courses that we no longer offer include AP Art History and Global Marketing.

Changes in the English Department

The English department at MHS has gone through many curriculum changes that affect how courses are taught as well as types of courses offered. In these changes, Journalism will now be a one semester course. Journalism will still count for the Global Certificate program but it will only generate 1/2 credit toward the eight required global courses.

Additionally, College English 12 and Senior English have now been broken up and are no longer course options. In the place of these courses students can now take "The Beasts of British Literature" and "College Composition and Research." The Beasts of British Literature will definitely be able to count as 1/2 credit for the Global Certificate. However College Composition and Research can not be a guarantee. If a student plans on taking College Composition and Research and would like the 1/2 to count toward their Global Certificate requirement, they must do a research project that is globally based. If this is the case they will want to share their research with their global mentor and show how their global perspective has increased as a result of taking the class. If they do not research a global based issue with global perspectives, then the course would not be able to count toward the certificate.

5th Credit of a Foreign Language

Many students are approaching their fifth year of a foreign language and would like to continue in learning that language. We strongly encourage students to continue in their learning of a second language so if you take a fifth credit of a foreign language that will count toward your eight required global credits. In other words if you take either German V or Spanish V, then five of your eight global credits will come from your foreign language area of focus. If you are one of our students who has maxed out on the German or Spanish credits offered we recommend that you schedule a meeting with your guidance counselor to see how you can continue your learning in that foreign language at one of the near by colleges or universities.

Reminder, if a student has questions at any time in regards to the courses they are taking and if they can count for the global certificate program, reach out to your global mentee. Schedule a meeting with them during a Flex time or send them an e-mail with your question.
